The Band of the West Midlands Fire Service is a Symphonic Wind Band with a wide and varied repertoire, providing music to suit all tastes and occasions. Band Members are a mix of amateur and semi-professional musicians from around the West Midlands, led by a professional musical director, Pat Ryan.
We are based at the West Midlands Fire Service Headquarters in Birmingham and, whilst we are not part of the Fire Service organisation, we are proud to represent the local and national Fire Services at events throughout the UK and abroad.
Our mission is to promote the fire safety message through music.
Our aim is to provide excellent entertainment whilst having fun!

The Band was formed in 1984 by a group of serving firemen, many of whom had never handled a wind instrument before; however, they had a common goal, to make music! Initially the Band was only open to serving firemen and their families, but after 15 successful years the number of Band members started to fall and the decision was made to allow members of the West Midlands community to join the Band.

Today the Band has a membership of approximately 55 and an ever growing reputation for providing its audiences with high quality performances of a wide range of musical styles.

As it is difficult to fit 45 musicians into some venues the Band has formed a number of different sized ensembles and, in conjunction with the West Midlands Fire Service Pipe Band, are able to provide music for just about any occasion; Parades, Fairs, Concerts, Birthdays, Weddings and Funerals!

We perform as: Symphonic Wind Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Function Band, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Fanfare Team, Corps of Drums, Solo Trumpeter or Bugler, Pipe Band, Lone Piper
